  Chapter 1

“Gentlemen, come in.” David Eastman stood at the door to his office on the top floor of the massive building that housed Eastman Enterprises.

Patrick Sutton and Elijah Barrett, two of his closest friends and colleagues, stepped into the room. At thirty-five, David was older than both of them, but they would probably be richer than him by the time they reached his age. Not that richer meant much when you got into the billions. Forbes seemed to think it meant something though. The thought of the magazine made his nose curl in disgust.

“Geeze, David. I figured you would be happy to see us. What’s with the sour face?” Elijah asked in his deep baritone voice.

David chuckled. “Sorry fellas, I was just remembering that article Forbes published about me last week. Don’t know why I read that shit.”

Now it was Patrick’s turn to laugh. “Hey, at least they aren’t implying that you’re a criminal mastermind attempting to oust your father who is also a criminal mastermind.”

“To be fair,” Elijah said as he sat on David’s couch, “They got half of that right.” A smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth as David looked on in amusement. The two had always egged each other on.

“Oh, bite me, Elijah, I don’t like thinking about my father that way. Even if it is true.”

David cleared his throat. “If you two are quite through, I brought you here to talk about something you’ll both want to hear.”

Patrick settled onto the couch next to Elijah while David took a seat across from them. In the center of the coffee table a crystal decanter of scotch sparkled in the sunlight. He picked it up and offered a pour of the amber liquid to each of his friends. They raised their glasses in a friendly salute.

“I won’t waste any more of your time,” he said after swallowing the entire glass. “I’ve figured out the orange diamonds.”

Patrick sat up straighter and set his glass aside. “That was the last one wasn’t it?” Elijah asked as a slow grin spread across his face.

David nodded, but his gaze had drifted to the window behind his friends where the city below was bustling.

“Are you OK man? You seem distracted. This is amazing news.” Patrick said, shaking him out of his preoccupation.

Damn it. David was hoping to hide his distracted state of mind by sharing the good news about the diamonds. He couldn’t tell them anything yet because not everyone was here. This news was painful enough he only wanted to have to say it once.

With a wave of his hand before he poured another glass of scotch he said, “I’m fine. Sorry. I do have an announcement to make at the party tomorrow night though. You’re both going right?”

They nodded. “I’m flying out tonight,” Elijah said as he reached for the decanter. David watched the whiskey splash around the tumbler, and it occurred to him that he might not be able to enjoy the expensive alcohol for much longer. Christ, he really wanted to spill everything to them, but he also didn’t want to ruin the moment.

Figuring out how to make orange diamonds in the lab was huge news. It was a process he’d been trying to perfect for an array of colors and orange was the one that was giving him the most trouble. But it was done, and they had replicated it several times over. Unfortunately, a single phone call overshadowed the excitement he should be feeling. David blinked his eyes and tried to clear his head. Now wasn’t the time to worry about that. There wasn’t anything to be done about it right now.

Forcing a smile, he said, “I’m glad you’ll both be there. All will be revealed tomorrow night, gentlemen.” He threw in a wink, hoping to lighten the mood.

Turning his attention to Patrick he said, “Where do you sit on our plan to roll out an identical line as the one Sutton Jewelry has planned?”

Patrick leaned forward, propping his elbows on his knees and steepling his fingers. “Your plan could definitely work. With Elijah’s PR chops and my secondary company backing the roll out I feel confident we could do some serious damage to Nicholas Sutton.”

It amused David that Patrick usually referred to his father by his full name. Never Dad, rarely Father, almost always, Nicholas Sutton. The disdain that dripped from the name as he said it was hard to miss too. Patrick Sutton had serious daddy issues.

David didn’t blame him though. For all intents and purposes, Nicholas Sutton had killed Lisa Sutton, Patrick’s mother. Elijah’s mother had died as well. No, Mr. Sutton didn’t pull the trigger or swing the machete, but he caused their death’s just the same. It’s a miracle that Patrick and Elijah were able to become friends. For a while, having the name Sutton was enough for Elijah to hate a person.

Then he realized Elijah was talking. David ran a hand through his hair and focused again. “I’m sorry Elijah, I missed that.”

“You really are distracted today, David. Sure you don’t want to tell us something?”

He tried not to wince. Instead, he just smiled. “Not until we’re with the others. If it will stop your pestering, I’ll give you a hint though. On top of mastering the orange diamond and completing the line, I’m ready to pull the trigger on another dream of mine. Hunter really needs to be there though before I say anything.”

“This wouldn’t have anything to do with that land you just purchased would it?” Patrick asked as he loosened his tie.

Nosy bastard, thought David. That’s what he got for taking the man under his wing and letting him into most of his business affairs though.

“All in good time, Patrick. But yes, it might have something to do with that.”

Patrick raised his fist into the air and brought it back down. There was no doubt that he guessed what David wanted to do with the land.

“Can we get back to business? I promise I’ll tell you everything this weekend. Let’s talk about this roll-out.”

The threesome spent the next hour going over production schedules, marketing strategies, and a list of ways to make sure they had the edge over Nicholas Sutton and his mined diamonds.

As they wrapped up business, Elijah said, “Any of you bringing someone with you this weekend? As always, I hear Hunter has a hell of a party planned.”

“At ten grand a ticket he damn well better,” Patrick quipped. “But no girl for me. I hope to meet someone though. It’s been too long since I’ve had a girl under my whip.”

“Same,” Elijah said. “I was going to take Stephanie if she was open to the lifestyle, but the blindfold freaked her out last week, so I decided these parties probably aren’t for her.”

David chuckled. Theirs wasn’t a lifestyle for everyone, but the ones who lived it were special. His thoughts drifted to one such person and his heart twisted. How would she react when he made his big announcement tomorrow night?

“Earth to David,” Patrick said, waving a hand in front of his face.

  “Sorry. What were you saying?”

“I was asking if Emily was joining you this weekend.”

The mention of the brunette’s name made him smile. “Yes. She’s meeting me there after finishing some family affairs.”

Elijah leaned in and asked, “Didn’t her brother just pass? How is she handling it?”

David hated thinking about the grief his girlfriend of seven months was feeling. “As well as anyone in this situation can handle it, I suppose. She’s strong. Took care of him for a decade though, so it’s hitting her hard.”

Both men nodded grimly. They were all too familiar with the grief of losing a loved one. David needed to steer them aw ay from this topic before he spilled his secret then and there. It was important that he only tell the story once. It would be easier that way.

Emily was going to be the hardest to face. How did he tell her that so soon after she buried her brother, she would likely have to bury her lover? As much as he loved her, it was occurring to him that it was probably best if she just moved on before things took a turn for the worse. The thought of her watching him die was more than he could bear. They had been talking about a collaring ceremony though, and he knew this was going to be painful for her.

She would stay by his side through his failing health if he asked her too, but that was the last thing he wanted. Emily had spent her entire adult life caring for others and he knew if he went through with collaring her, she would eventually grow to resent being collared to a dying man. Resentment was the last thing he wanted from Emily Ballenger.

  Chapter 2

Emily Ballenger stared out the hotel room window onto the famed Las Vegas Strip. She had never been to Vegas before and despite still grieving the loss of her big brother, she was looking forward to having a good weekend. For the first time in ten years, Emily felt like she was free to enjoy herself.

Tonight was a gathering with all her kinky friends. From what she understood, she was about to attend the most lavish BDSM party in existence. Put on by billionaire casino owner, Hunter Novak. Since coming into the lifestyle, she’d met Hunter a few times. The man was kind and damn fine to look at, but he didn’t hold a candle to her David.

A smile tugged at her lips and her hand drifted to her throat as she thought of David Eastman. Hopefully soon, her neck would no longer be bare.

Emily’s phone buzzed, and she leaned over to the nearby nightstand to pick it up.

I hope you were a good girl and left your panties at home.

Warmth crept up her face as she read the text from David. Then she got an idea. The hotel suite had a window seat and the light was perfect. Plus, they were on the highest floor so nobody would notice. Seated on the plush cushions, Emily raised her skirt just enough that when she lifted one leg onto the seat and let it fall toward the window, the camera would capture the tiniest glimpse of bare pussy.

As far as nudes went this one was tame, but her heart still raced as she snapped the photo. It took three tries to get the one she wanted. Then, before she lost her nerve, she attached the photo to a message and hit send.

  His response was immediate.

Christ woman. Don’t send me things like that while I’m still at work.

A follow-up message followed seconds later.

Good girl. I’ll see you tonight at the hotel bar. Enjoy yourself today but don’t be late.

Emily could almost see David’s face with one eyebrow quirked upward and a stern expression as he gave the command. With legs still splayed open on the window seat, a sigh escaped her lips as thoughts of her dominant boyfriend played in her mind. One index finger grazed the smooth folds between her legs, and Emily gasped as a wetness she wasn’t expecting met her hand.

  Her phone buzzed again.

  And no touching what’s mine.

Emily clamped her legs shut. It was as if David could see her. A slow grin spread across her face. Excitement building for tonight. Perhaps she would confess her little sin and gladly accept whatever wicked punishment he wanted to dole out. A groan escaped her lips and she quickly stood before she was tempted to continue disobeying. A massage in the hotel spa had been arranged for her. Perhaps a little pampering would relieve some pent-up tension

Three hours later, Emily smoothed the fitted skirt of her blue dress down her thighs. It stopped three inches short of her knees, making her very aware of her lack of panties. Slipping her feet into the matching stilettos that had been waiting for her with the dress when she returned from her spa trip, she took one last look in the mirror before picking up her clutch and heading to the elevator.

There was still an hour and a half before David was supposed to meet her, but Emily was going to meet friend and fellow submissive Dakota, who would also attend tonight’s party. David had introduced the two at a private gathering in his home and they had instantly hit it off.

When Emily got to the bar in the center of the casino floor, she spotted Dakota right away. Chestnut hair fell in loose curls on tanned shoulders and she held a martini glass by the stem. Emily stepped with care, so Dakota didn’t hear or see the approach.

Standing less than six inches from Dakota she said, “Hey sailor, buy a girl a drink?”

Dakota turned and grinned up at her. “Afraid you’re on your own sweetheart,” she said with a thick drawl. “I’m pretty sure David would have my head if I bought his girl a drink.”

Emily giggled as she settled onto the stool next to Dakota. David wouldn’t care, but he was protective of her and they enjoyed joking about it.

Dakota set her drink down and leaned over to hug Emily.

“I was so sorry to hear about Tristan.”

Emily closed her eyes and enjoyed the warmth of the embrace as she tried to keep the wave of grief at bay. Tonight was supposed to be fun.

“Thank you,” she whispered as she pulled away from Dakota and dabbed at her eyes with a cocktail napkin. “It’s been hard, but he’s in a better place and finally not in pain anymore.”

Dakota nodded and kept a hand on her shoulder. After a brief moment of silence, Emily took a deep breath and said, “How about that drink?”

Dakota flagged down the bartender who nearly tripped and fell trying to get to her.

“What can I do for you, Miss Hylander?” Dakota rolled her eyes and Emily stifled a chuckle. Dakota Hylander was the heiress to one of the biggest cattle ranches in the country and most people knew her name and knew she had money to burn. In a city like Vegas, people scrambled to give her whatever she wanted. Dakota nodded in Emily’s direction.

“Whatever my friend here wants, and I’ll take another martini.”

Emily nodded. “I’ll have the same thing please.”

Dakota raised an eyebrow. “How does David feel about you having such a strong drink before a party?”

Emily shrugged. “We didn’t talk about it. But it’s my first time in Vegas and David ordered me to have a good time.”

Dakota laughed and raised her glass. “Far be it from me to keep you from obeying your Dom. I’m unattached again so I don’t have anyone to answer to.”

Emily grinned, but she didn’t miss the disappointment in her friend’s voice. Dakota was a submissive too. “Doms are just intimidated by your name and money. One day soon you’ll find someone.”

Dakota shrugged. “I certainly don’t need a Dom who is intimidated. I’ll just be content playing casually at parties.”

The bartender came scurrying back with two fresh martinis and a tray of nuts, cheeses, and olives.

“Enjoy your drinks ladies,” he said with a little more flourish than necessary.

For the next hour, the girls sipped on drinks and made small talk about the upcoming party. Emily had been to BDSM parties before, but Dakota confirmed that those were small and irrelevant compared to the kinky haven she was about to walk into.

Just as she was swallowing the last of her martini, Emily felt him behind her.

“I hope you’re not trying to get my girl drunk, Miss Hylander.” His deep voice reverberated through her and she sighed as a hand rested on the back of her neck.

“I wanted to, but she said she was saving herself for you,” Dakota said with a smirk.

Emily turned to stare up at her man and nearly drooled. Dressed in all black, David’s dirty blond hair was a bit unruly from the Vegas wind. The golden waves begged for fingers to run through them.

“You look tired,” Emily said as she stood and wrapped her arms around him.

“Long day. I feel better now that I’m with you,” David said as he planted a kiss on her head. Even with the heels, Emily barely reached his chin.

Dakota cleared her throat while she signed the bill for the drinks. “I’m going to make myself scarce so you two lovebirds can make out or whatever. I’ll see you kids at Hunter’s place,” she drawled.
